In this episode of TanglePod, Kellie and I are exploring the theme of inner critic or how that little inner voice affects our creativity.

It’s not easy NOT to listen to that negative voice. We have to let go of that judgmental voice that prevents us to create. The inner critic plays with our fears and our discouragements. It embroiders on our past stories to convince us that we cannot change. Don’t let it win!

Kellie and I also share in this episode some options we tried – or think it might be worth it to try, to fight our inner critic. Here are a few examples – there are more in the show: start an art journal, change creative practices or activity from time to time, get out, explore, exercise, etc.

Tangling while revisiting our latest episode – always a good reminder to let go of that negative inner voice

It was really intersting to listen back to this episode and think about how my experience and approach has changed since we recorded it.

My grandfather always told me that guests and fish start to smell after three days – and that is equally true of the Inner Critic.

My Inner Critic rarely pops by for a brief hello, it usually brings a bag and settles in for a good couple days or a week.  Of course like any guest, its hard to get anything done or move forward when the Inner Critic is staying.

In these periods it is really helpful for me when I have a running ‘to-do’ list that I can at least check things off and get a few things accomplished. It is often that list that helps me kick the Inner Critic goodbye – because I am ignoring it and getting my mind in a more productive space.
